Summer has come to an end. The air is getting crisper, leaves are changing colors–or if you live in the desert like myself, the temperature is finally dropping below 100 degrees. With the change of season brings new music as well. As if 2018 couldn’t get any better. 2018 saw the return of Jack White, Arctic Monkeys, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club just to name a few. Fall 2018 isn’t slowing down either. Here are 10 of the most anticipated albums coming out soon.

Prince – Piano & Microphone 1983

The new season could not have got off to a fast start. None other than the Purple One graces us with a gift from the heavens. Released with permission from his estate Prince Piano & Microphone is a collection of demos and unreleased material from the legendary artist. Stripped down and before he took the world by storm we get a look at the process of music’s greatest minds. ( Released: September 21st).

Ramones- Road to Ruin 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition

Celebrating its 40th anniversary, Rhino Records is releasing the deluxe edition of Road to Ruin. The deluxe edition will include remastered tracks, early demos, and an unreleased live recording of the Ramones in New York City.

Joe Strummer – 001 (Box Set)

As if unreleased material from one icon was not enough, we are presented with Joe Strummer 001. Courtesy of Ignition Records, the compilation spans Strummer’s career outside The Clash featuring 32 tracks from the 101’ers, the Mescaleros, solo albums, and previously unreleased material. The box set includes 2 CD’s, 4 LP’s, a cassette, and much more. (Release Date September 28th).

Elvis Costello & The Imposters Look Now

Cancer free Elvis Costello reunites after 10 years with his band the Imposters. The anticipation for Look Now is building fast. With rumored collaborations with Carole King and Burt Bacharach, Costello describes the album as a combination of Imperial Bedroom and Painted From Memory. If so, we are in for something special from the spectacled genius. (Release Date: October 12th).

Cloud Nothings – Last Building Burning

The Cloud Nothings have established themselves as one the most exciting punk/post hardcore bands in the last decade. With the first single “The Echo of the World,” the band returns to the frantic chaos and anger that set them apart and made their first two albums a must listen. Welcome back Cloud Nothings! (Release Date: October 19th).

Greta Van Fleet – Anthem of the Peaceful Army

Get on the Van Fleet hype train.  Anthem of the Peaceful Army is one of the most anticipated debut albums in recent memory. The Zeppelin comparisons have been made but they are the real deal, folks. With only a handful of tracks released prior to it dropping, we are finally getting a full length album from the rock quartet. With a new single out get ready to join “the peaceful army!” (Release Date: October 19th).

Thom Yorke – Suspiria: Music for the Luca Guadagnino Film

Yes this is a soundtrack. But, how can one not be excited to hear Radiohead’s Thom Yorke’s first movie score. To top it if off, it’s the score for the remake of Dario Argento’s classic horror film Suspiria. I am doublely excited to see the remake and what Yorke has in store for us.

Tenacious D – Post-Apocalypto

Tenacious D are back! Apparently we are living in an post apocalyptic world. It’s been since 2012 that we heard from Jack Black and Kyle Gass, but it seems like they are ready to lead the way through these treacherous days.

Childish Gambino – TBA

What is there to be said about Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino. The Emmy and Grammy awarding winner is set to release a new album this fall. No title or date has been set but we are all on the edge of our seats. Apparently because it stills feels like summer for the troubadour.

Vampire Weekend – TBA

What do you do to follow up one of the best albums of the last decade? It’s the situation Ezra Koenig and Vampire Weekend find themselves in. With teasers on social media of live performances and album news, the anticipation is building for the album from the indie rockers. With founding member Rostam Batmanglij leaving the band, we are all interested in what is next.

Robert Miranda

Robert is a music consumer. As in he consumes all things music: live shows, vinyl, Spotify, download cards. If it sounds good, he's in.
