June 17 to August 15, 2020, Core Contemporary Gallery hosts its 2nd annual national juried art exhibition, Use Other Door.
This new exhibition is a judged collection of contemporary art submitted by talented artists from across the country. The exhibit is free and open to the public Wednesdays through Saturdays, from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. Due to the current restrictions related to COVID_19, the gallery will be hosting several online events, including the release of a virtual art tour and artists’ talks, along with a closing reception to be held Saturday, August 15th, 3-6p.m.
Use Other Door invited artists to submit contemporary work that represented their interpretation of what their “other door” might be. As the call description stated, this “other door” might be something as literal as choosing between two or more physical doors to gain access to something. Or, it could represent something intangible, such as a missed opportunity, conquering a fear, pursuing a dream or abandoning a goal.
“Use Other Door provides an opportunity for artists to approach their creative techniques and mediums in a way that maybe they haven’t in the past,” said Nancy Good, juror, professional artist, and owner of Core Contemporary. “As a juror and the creator of this annual show, I was pleased to see the varied submissions to this second incarnation from talented beginners to established professional artists with MFAs.” Other jurors include artists Omayra Amador, BFA in Fine Arts from Parsons New School University, and known for her Milk the Bunny street art; Sapira Cheuk, MFA in Studio Art, California State University, San Bernardino and a fine artist working most frequently in large scale pen and sumi ink figures on paper; and Angelina Saldana, a recent BFA graduate from UNLV, whose most recent work is in-depth studies of strong graphic patterns.
Selected from 62 separate submissions, Use Other Door is a vibrant, dynamic and expressive exhibition featuring sculpture, photography, assemblage, painting, and mixed-media by artists from around the country. Participating artists: Carrie Bordeau, Diane Bush, Zoe Camper, Nicole Cochener, Chris Fowler, Stormi Holt, Bindia Hallauer, Paula Jacoby-Garrett, Annie Lin, Havi Mandel, Jung Min,ShaRose Niedelman, Debra Reade, Chad Scott, Linda Shaffer, Bethany Thomas, Tom Umholtz, Claire Wentzel, Veronica Wong, and Shahab Zargari.
