You probably heard this one before. “Ty Segall released a new album.” It’s a tagline you in all likelihood have read a multitude times this year, an annual ritual at this point in his career. This is because Segall, the indie-rock stall-worth, has released his third album this year, Pre Strike Sweep with GØGGS. Segall released his 10th solo studio album, Freedom’s Goblin, earlier this year in January. Following up that critically acclaimed album was a midsummer release of Joy, collaborating once again with White Fence. You can catch Ty Segall and White Fence at Desert Daze this year held at Moreno Beach, Lake Perris October 12th -14th.
Pre Strike Sweep is the sophomore release from hardcore super group GØGGS, courtesy of In The Red Records. Released three weeks early (it was originally slated to drop September 28th), the band features Ty Segall on guitar and Fuzz band-mate Charles Moothart on drums and guitar, with bassist Michael Anderson, and Ex Cult’s front-man Chris Shaw on vocals. GØGGS picks up right where they left off from their self-titled debut album released in 2016. This is another hardcore-garage rock infused album that rips through your senses. Shaw gnarls through the album with rage while you are taken on a wild trip with Ty’s punk-garage fuzz guitar playing. Title track Pre Strike Sweep encapsulates what the band is all about. Primal and fierce.
