Jack White announced he will be releasing a new documentary and supplementary EP later this month. The not so subtly titled dual release Jack White: Kneeling at The Anthem D.C. will be available September 21st exclusively on Amazon Music. The film teams Jack White again with Emmett Malloy, director of The White Stripes Under the Great White Northern Lights, and features footage of White’s performance at The Anthem in Washington D.C. and surprise performance at Woodrow Wilson High School. The EP features songs from White’s latest album release, Boarding House Reach, and the tracks “Blunderbuss” and “Icky Thump.”
White throws his fedora back into the political ring again with a nod to former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s peaceful protest against racial and social injustices that occur in the African American community in the United States. Kaepernick sparked outrage among conservatives and those on the far right of the political spectrum, including the President of the United States. It’s not the first time White took aim at President Trump. During the 2016 presidential election White re-released “Icky Thump” rebranded as Icky Trump.
White is not the only one making political statements this year. Tom Waits released a new track this year as well. Waits’ first track in two years sees him collaborate with composer and guitarist Marc Ribot. “Bella Ciao” is said to be an anti-fascist ballad and was released on Ribot’s album Songs of Resistance; 1948-2018 (September 14th).
