Do you enjoy history?
Sure, it can be pretty interesting.
Great! Have you ever heard of Numantia?
Doesn’t ring a bell.
Oh man, check out this nutty shit.
Numantia was an ancient Celtiberian settlement famous for its role in the Celtiberian wars. In 153 BC Numantia took in some fugitives from the city of Segeda, who belonged to another Celtiberian tribe called the Belli. Their leader, Carus of Segeda, had managed to defeat a Roman army. Needless to say the Romans were furious. They then besieged Numantia and deployed a few war elephants, but were unsuccessful. After 20 long years of conflict Numantia finally fell in 133 BC after a 13 month siege led by the Roman politician Scipio Aemilianus Africanus.
Cool history lesson nerd. Is there a way I can learn about this with out feeling like I’m at the library?
Glad you asked. Do you like video games?
Hell fucking yeah I do!
Well I hope you like turn-based strategy games!
Awww, fuck dude. I really don’t. Those games make me feel intellectually inadequate.
That’s well said for a dumb dumb, but too bad. You already agreed to review it, so do your best you fucking idiot.
Numantia is story-driven strategy game taken straight out of the history books. Its 2 campaigns have you leading either the Numantian or Roman armies whether on the battlefield or in the various settlements and camps. It’s pretty fun as the entire game is filled with dialogue choices that can alter certain aspects of the story while remaining relatively accurate to the real life events it’s based on.
I don’t wanna say it’s a bad game. Because it might not be. It’s not visually impressive by any means. And the settlement stuff is really just menu management. But fans of the genre online seem to have been digging it. I don’t know if I just need a new shovel, but all I was hitting was rocks. Either way, I’m gonna go to the library and read up more on this fascinating moment in history. You’ve peaked my interest, game. You truly have.
Numantia is available on Steam and PS4 for $19.99
