Do you enjoy history?
No dude. We’re not doing this again.
Do you enjoy video games?
Stop it! We just did this bit with the Numantia review. We’re beating a dead horse.
You know what they say. When in Rome.
I hate you.
Wulverblade is a side-scrolling beat-em-up that is heavily inspired by 90s arcade games. And I’m gonna cut to the chase. Wulverblade is fucking tiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Its simple yet challenging gameplay and awesome art style will suck you in and have you chopping heads off for hours.
The year is 120 AD, the south of Britania has been seized by the Roman army. The 5,000 strong, 9th legion, prepare to march north and conquer the rest of the island. But the Britanian tribes won’t go down with out a fight. Play as either Caradoc, Brennus or Guinevere – members of a family originating in the northern tribe of the Caledonii. And bring the Romans to their knees.
Wulverblade is a beautiful game. Its 8 levels are based on real locations and is presented in wonderful 1080p HD and is accompanied by an excellent soundtrack that makes fighting your way through these locations a real treat.
Combat is standard in the genre; light attack, heavy attack, blocking and dodging. But it runs smoothly and you can pull off some pretty nasty combos, leaving a trail of the literal definition of mayhem. You can throw severed heads at enemies. For real! It’s ridiculously satisfying.
The game has a few game modes such as campaign, arcade and arena mode. There’s also an unlock-able mode for true guardians of the northern tribes. And as a bonus, there’s loads of unlock-able extras such as concept art, story boards, and tons of fun facts for all you history nerds.
I rather enjoyed this one and don’t plan on deleting it off my hard drive till I get that sweet platinum trophy.
